God and Work

As I'm stepping out to freelance full time, one of the things I'm realizing is the absolute importance of keeping Christ in the picture in everything that I do. A big temptation for me is to separate my spiritual life from my business life, but I think that's a huge mistake. If I want to truly devote my life to Christ, I have to realize that a huge portion of my life is my career and what I do for a living. God provides the skills that I possess, the clients that I'll work for, everything that I will ever own, and whether or not I'll succeed or fail. Just realizing all of that is incredibly comforting, but it's also a wake up call that if it's not all commited and surrendered to Him, I'll just be trusting in my temporary circumstances, which is a risky business. The best business decision I can make is to trust God with it all. That's not to say that everything will run smoothly with no problems, but when the trouble comes along, I've got security in Christ.

Hi David! Your website is cool!
But don't you think it's kind of risky to just trust god, no offense. But there is no scientific proof of god, so why are you getting all caught up about him? Chill man. Just live your life :) You may lose athiest customers if you talk about god all the time, no offense.

hi Sadie, I'm glad you like the site!
If I lose customers because of my faith in God, that's ok by me. The culture that I live in is filled with messages to trust in yourself, to believe in yourself. If you set your mind to it, you can accomplish anything. I know that the talent I have is not a result of anything I did. The things that I posess, none of it is earned because of my hard work, it's all from God, both the good and the bad. So i don't want to take credit for something that's not mine - so I give the glory to God.
That's where i'm coming from. Thanks for your comments!

YOU ROCK DAVE!
My new favourite fellow believer/web designer!
I love how you responded to Sadie. I'm nowhere near as talented as you at design, but everything I've learned has really been within the last 14 months or so (during my time as a fill-in pastor) and it has been God who has given me the eye for design.
Keep up the great work!

Hey Dave, I know I'm responding to one of your older posts but I wanted to say I like the new design (wish I could've seen the old one to compare). Also wanted to say its awesome that you are not wavering on Christ for the sake of more clients/money. It's so true that God will provide us with everything we need. Keep up the good work.

Hey Dave,
As a fellow Dave, fellow designer, and fellow believer I find we have a lot in common! Bless you for being so forward in your faith, and focusing on what truly matters. There are few, even within Christian circles, who recognize the centrality of Christ in all things, and then actually live that way. So God bless you, now and in the age to come!
On the design side, I really like your site. One small suggestion, and maybe it's just preference... I like all the dead-space for it's ease on the eyes, but your site requires a wider screen than many have. It's fine for me, but not for the old ladies who might travel by... I have around 140 extra pixels on the left side that could be shaved... or even 100 would help.
I stumbled upon your site from http://www.thebestdesigns.com/ -- front page, congratulations!
My prayers are with you!

Your blog entry have encouraged and reminded me to leave it all to God. He has the last say and my best interest at heart.
