New Design is Up!

I'm finally done with my new blog design! This is probably one of the most ambitious designs I've ever done. I really wanted to experiment with lighting and shadows for this design. I think of interior design as an excellent example. If you took lighting away from an interior designer, it could have devastating consequences. You can have the greatest design, but if it's lit with fluorescent lights in the ceiling, it's not going to look nearly as good as it could with some well placed lighting. So I really tried to push that in this design.

Lighting effects also look so much better on a good texture. It gives it an implied sense of physicality to an otherwise flat and completely neutral surface. So I used three different textures for the three main sections of the site - the content, the supplemental content, and the secondary content area containing the footer.

There were several issues in the positioning of the left navigation that didn't work well in IE6, so I ended up creating an alternate version of the menu for that browser. I thought of pulling a Malarkey and doing an alternate layout for IE6, but when push came to shove. I just didn't want to invest that much effort for an obsolete browser.

Well I hope you enjoy the site and the articles, I'll try to keep it real and informative. I might integrate an old school guestbook later as well for sentimental reasons. I'll keep you posted. Thanks for reading!
