The Future of Apple TV

I'm absolutely in love with the ability to stream my music through airtunes to the Apple TV and have the Apple TV display on screen what I'm currently playing. It's genius! Now, why can't we also have this same functionality with all the content on our Mac? I want to be able to stream videos in iTunes as well. We know it's possible, because that's what the Apple TV does when you connect it to a computer. It's just a matter of establishing the connection from the computer instead.

In fact, why couldn't you send more than just music and movies? Just put an option into quick look - send to Apple TV. Then anything that quick look can read, could be transmitted wirelessly to your TV for viewing. Imagine how cool that would be! The ability to simply say, "on screen" in your best Patrick Stewart impression and have it instantly show up! Photos, PDFs, the sky's the limit. Come on Apple! It's totally within the realm of possibility.

You're totally right. As I see it, the tragic thing about the Apple TV is that it could easily transcend what it currently is: a hardware front-end for iTunes. IMO The Fruit would do well to open the platform up to the open-source community and let them go crazy with it (I'd love to see Skype support, Netflix streaming, UI skinning tools, outboard DVD/BluRay drive support, streaming radio and a bundle other goodies). That being said, I do love it for streaming my DVD library, something it's quite good at even over "g" wireless.

With that, I'll leave you with my high praise for your theme. Nicely done, sir!
