Evolution of Emma's Bridal

I just thought that I would detail here on my new blog the design process of Emma's Bridal Jewelry. To get the design hammered down probably took a little less than a month or so. I was busy with school at the same time and working on it in my spare time. It was a lot of fun collaborating with my sister Laura to get something that looked trendy and girly, even though we switched directions numerous times.

The drafts below contain several copyrighted images from iStockPhoto. If you like them, I highly recommend checking them out, they're great quality and affordable too.

First draft

draft 1

This is the first draft, very simple, but it got things moving.

Second draft

draft 2

Added a reflection, a sub title, and some garnishes.

Third draft

draft 3

Changed the rose because Laura didn't like the red, she wanted pink. This new rose didn't work out too well though.

Fourth draft

draft 4

Tried a pink rose and added a side bar. Also added a top pink bar to add more color.

Fifth draft

draft 5

Changed the links to some new 3d buttons.

Sixth draft

draft 6

Got frustrated with the previous design so I tried a new route, but Laura said it didn't look trendy enough, that it looked too much like a business site.

Seventh draft

draft 7

Went back to the old design and added some floating words to give it something more. Laura loved the floating words, her exact words were, "I like it! I like it! I like it! ... I totally love it. I love how you did the floating words. They look SO elegant!"

Eighth draft

draft 8

The words weren't very practical however, and it was hard to add content and still incorporate them into the design.

Ninth draft

draft 9

That design simply wasn't working out, so I tried a new route again. This design didn't have enough pink in it however.

Tenth draft

draft 10

Made some modifications to make the content more manageable and added more red. But in the end, Laura just wasn't feeling this design. Again, not trendy enough.

Eleventh draft

draft 11

Laura said that pink and brown were very trendy colors. I about choked on the thought of those two colors together. I thought they'd look horrible together. But I tried it anyway, determined to get a trendy stylish look, and the pink and brown actually didn't look too bad.

Twelfth draft

draft 12

Added some loops to make it look even more trendier. I was really feeling the direction this design was taking.

Thirteenth draft

draft 13

Laura wasn't however, she thought it would look better if it went towards more of a scrapbooking look. The floating words were also brought back.

Fourteenth draft

draft 14

We straightened the floating words and added a swirly element on the left side. And finally it was decided that this was the best route to go.
