Life, Love & Happiness

I've been thinking a lot recently about my life, happiness, and yes, that mushy topic we all love.... love. I'm rather secluded being a freelancer. I've always been somewhat of an introvert. For the most part, I like to keep to myself. And I feel I've been able to really refine my craft as a result, It's also given me more time to focus on my relationship with God.

The Design of Nature

I just took this picture of these beautiful fall leaves in the woods behind our house. I can't help but admire the way oranges and yellows blend so perfectly with each other, and then there's the subtle contrast of the blue and green behind them. It's really awe inspiring in a simple sort of way. As a graphic designer, I could never in a million years come up with anything this beautiful. And no artist on Earth could create something as intricate and detailed as this. And this is just a static picture that I captured with a camera. God and Work

As I'm stepping out to freelance full time, one of the things I'm realizing is the absolute importance of keeping Christ in the picture in everything that I do. A big temptation for me is to separate my spiritual life from my business life, but I think that's a huge mistake. If I want to truly devote my life to Christ, I have to realize that a huge portion of my life is my career and what I do for a living. God provides the skills that I possess, the clients that I'll work for, everything that I will ever own, and whether or not I'll succeed or fail. Just realizing all of that is incredibly comforting, but it's also a wake up call that if it's not all commited and surrendered to Him, I'll just be trusting in my temporary circumstances, which is a risky business. The best business decision I can make is to trust God with it all. That's not to say that everything will run smoothly with no problems, but when the trouble comes along, I've got security in Christ.

Risk is Our Business!

One of the things God has been teaching me is how desperately important it is for me to stay open to whatever he would lead me to do. And not just the big decisions in life, but in the tiny decision as well, in how talk to people, or in what I say. If God is guiding me to say or do something that is uncomfortable for me, I want to be completely ready and willing to do it. Even if it seems like a bad idea to everyone else, or the type of thing that people might think is incredibly foolish. I've committed my life to Christ, in everything I do I want to give Him glory and to do that means I can't always be comfortable in the process. There are times when there's a great amount of risk involved!
